Demian played a homeless, religious fanatic
Demian ranted and raved as a homeless, religious fanatic in the Book of Stars. Demian gave the “Word of the Lord” a high-octane booster shot in the rump of life as he screamed at the devil (who resided in the sewers), and subsequently terrorized the tourists when they stumbled unto the set in the streets of Pioneer Square in Seattle.
Demian — the spiritual wild child — in character on the set.

The Book of Stars was shot in 1998 and got rave reviews at festivals. The film stars Mary Stuart Masterson, Jena Malone, Delroy Lindo, and Karl Geary. It tells a gentle tale of two orphaned sisters. The elder, in a downward path of drugs and prostitution, is barely able to care for her younger sister. While the younger sister suffers from a terminal lung illness, it is she — through Jena’s extraordinary performance — the one who shows the importance of romance and fantasy, ultimately suggesting hope for the older sister.
