Ven. Chodron and Ven. Amaro also relate how they, as westerners, found their way to Buddhism and monastic life. Both Ven. Chodron and Ven. Amaro are heads of their own monasteries, have lectured and taught around the world, and have published many books.

The main video was shot on February 28, 1995, in Seattle, Washington, and was originally released on VHS. It is now available on DVD, along with three other short videos of their teachings.

Biographies
About: Ven. Thubten Chodron

Venerable Thubten Chodron has been a Buddhist nun since 1977 and has studied and practiced Buddhism under the guidance of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Tsenzhap Serkong Rinpoche, Lama Zopa Rinpoche and other Tibetan masters. She is the founder and abbess of Sravasti Abbey, a Buddhist monastic community in Washington State, USA. Active in interfaith dialogue, she also does Dharma outreach in prisons and teaches worldwide.

About: Ven. Ajahn Amaro

Born in Kent, England, in 1956, Amaro received a BSc with Honours from London University in psychology and physiology in 1977. In 1978, he took up residence in a forest meditation monastery, in the lineage of Ven. Ajahn Chah, in Northeast Thailand. In 1996, he founded Abhayagiri Monastery in Mendocino County, California, and was co-abbot from 1997-2010. Amaro has traveled extensively to share Buddhist thought and presently is abbot of Amaravati Buddhist Monastery in Hertfordshire, England. He has written 12 books, most recently, “Inner Listening: Meditation on the Sound of Silence, a guide to ‘nada yoga’ ” and “Introduction to the Life and Teachings of Ajahn Chah.”
